• Elecampane - Inula helenium - Liquid Extract Tincture - 100ml

Elecampane Inula helenium also called horse-heal and elfdock, is a widespread species of plants in the sunflower family native to Europe and Asia from Spain to western China and naturalized in parts of North America.

In France and Switzerland it has used in the manufacture of absinthe. It has traditionally been used as a medicine as an expectorant and for water retention. The Spanish used Elecampane as a surgical dressing as the root has powerful antiseptic properties which helped to heal putrefying wounds. In the 17th century it was recommended to guard against putrefaction and as a means of helping to ‘remove cramps or convulsions, the pains of gout, [and] the sciatica’.

Elecampane got one of its common names of Horseheal due to the fact that farriers used the herb to heal scabs and sores on the heels of horses to help prevent them going lame.
